A LIVING SACRIFICE.
[Sarah Jane Lancaster]
There is a Scriptural injunction generally disregarded by God's people. It is to be found in Rom. 12: 1: "Present your bodies a living sacrifice." One reason why we see so few carrying out the instruction is that they really do not know how to do it. They seem almost incapable of grasping the fact that God wants their mortal bodies that He may work in and through them by His mighty spirit's power.
For their benefit we have not withheld "A Lady Preacher's Experiences," which are perfectly in accord with many Biblical manifestations—just as we would expect, because one of the boasts of Jehovah is: "I change not."
That they may test the lady's manifestations by the Scriptures, we append a few references which, though by no means exhausting the subject, will make an interesting Bible Study. Falling on the face: Numb. 14: 5 and 16: 22. Josh. 5: 14 and 7: 6. Judges 13: 20. Kgs. 18: 39. Eze. 1: 28.
Travail:—Isa. 53: 11 and 66: 8. Gal. 4: 19. Trembling:—Ps. 2: 11, Ps. 55: 5, and Ps. 119: 120. Job 21: 6. 1 Sam. 14: 15. Isa. 66: 2: Phill. 2: 12.
Lifting the hands:—Ps. 28: 2, 88: 9. Lam. 3: 41. 1 Tim. 2: 8.
Shaking:—Dan. 10: 7-9. Isa. 6: 3. Matt. 28: 4.
As a fool or mad:—Hosea 9: 7. 1 Cor. 4: 10. John 10: 20.
As though drunken:—Jer. 23: 9. 1 Sam. 1: 12-15. Acts 2: 12-18. Eph. 5: 18-20.
Extraordinary:—1 Sam. 9: 23, 24 and 1 Sam. 3: 4. Ezra 3: 12. Isa. 20: 2, 3, 4. Jer. 13: 1, 24: 1-3, 19: 1, 10, 32: 6-14, 35: 1-6, 36: 1-4. Eze. 2. 2; 3: 1, 12, 15, 24, 26.; 4: 1-6, 5: 1-4, 8: 3, 11: 1, 12: 3-7, 18. Hab. 3: 16. Acts 8: 39.
Stammering lips and another tongue:—Isa. 28: 11. Acts 10: 46 and 19: 6. 1 Cor. 13: 1.
Only a few Scriptural hints are here given, but it will pay any doubting Thomas to search and see whether these things be so, though let any of our contemporary religionists dare to testify to having experienced such manifestations as are indicated in the above passages, and Christendom will be down upon him, with:
"What! The Holy Spirit made you drunk? A likely story!" "Caught you away by the hair of your head? Tell that to the marines." Beloved! Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday, and to-day, and for ever. Having made a full consecration, present your body a living sacrifice, and let the Lord fill you to overflowing with the Holy Ghost, the Comforter.—Ed
