13 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. [Condolence messages]

[19] GN vol. 25, no. 2, February 1935

The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

Our sympathies are with our beloved Sister Wight and family in their recent sad bereavement of their loved son and brother who passed peacefully away after a brief illness. We rejoice with our dear sister in that he died trusting in the One who said "that every one which seeth the Son and believeth on Him, may have everlasting life and I will raise him up at the last day."

It is with deep sorrow that we record the death of our loved young brother Seth Clark of Camperdown, He was soldering something and the tank exploded and Seth died a few hours later from burns. His last words were, "Yes, I will keep trusting." All of every creed who knew him bore testimony to his consistent Christian life. His dear parents and sister Agnes need our prayers in this exceeding great trial..

Deep sympathy is felt for our dear Sister Florrie Holman and her family in the exceedingly sudden death from heart failure of her much loved brother Fred. These sudden separations lessen the number of our earthly ties; but all glory to God- Jesus ever lives and abides with us.

It is well to remember that at the back of all calamitous circumstances stands the throne of God, that He is the Great First Cause in the lives of those who acknowledge His lordship. Nebuchadnezzar's power was limited; he could light the fires of martyrdom, but God could render the flames powerless. Let us not overlook the fact that deliverance in the fire is a greater miracle than deliverance from the fire.

Perhaps in the eyes of others your position may appear paradoxical, and the question may be hurled at you, "Where is your God?" "What doest thou in such sorry plight?" These and other stinging taunts may be thrown at you by those who wish to wound and seek to dissuade you from this utmost union with the Cross. Let your answer be an unfaltering and unflinching attitude of confidence in God. Do not struggle to justify your position before men, but be careful to retain a right relationship Godward.

Speak a shade more kindly than the year before; pray a little oftener,

Love a little more! Cling a little closer to the Father's love; life below shall liker grow

To the life above.

A life without suffering would be like a picture without shade.

Those who bring sunshine into the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves.
