Lord, teach us to Pray
We believe that through His Incarnation in Jesus Christ, God has made all human life holy. In Christ, God has touched every phase of man's life — his childhood, youth and maturity, his home . and family, his labour and leisure, his economic and social and political relationships; God has touched all these because in Christ He became man and shared these human experiences with men.
The Christian Church became a living fact when those who had been Jesus' disciples realised that their mission was to continue what their Lord had begun to do. Thus the Church can claim to be an extension of the Incarnation; the work which God began to do in Jesus Christ did not end with the Ascension; that work God continues to do through His Church. So the Church, if it is to be really the Church and not some merely human association, must touch every sphere of human life. "Religion inevitably grows feeble and corrupt if it be isolated from the other interests of life, instead of informing and giving meaning and direction to them all. . . " (H. H. Farmer). The Church, if it keeps itself aloof from man's everyday life, ceases to be the Church, for the Gospel is relevant to all the interests of human life in every generation, and that Gospel it is the Church's function to proclaim.

Father, make us faithful in the ordinary things of life so that we may do well our daily duties and all the tasks we undertake. Do not let us be satisfied with slovenly or second-rate work. Help us to be thorough. May we find new and increasing interest in our work. Open our eyes, we pray Thee Our Father, to the beauty that surrounds us so that we may be thankful for it and be continually refreshed by it.
Grant that, coming closer ourselves to our Master, we may find increasing understanding and new sympathy for the people we meet day by day.
O Lord of all the world, who hast called Thy children to be members of Thy Body, the Church, cast us not away for our uselessness, we pray Thee, but fill us with Thy life and health that we may be restored to Thy service and rejoice in doing Thy will. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
